Combining Ayurveda and Yoga

If you’re considering the AyurFlow yoga and ayurveda teacher training, it’s important to grasp how Ayurveda and Yoga beautifully intertwine. Both of these ancient Indian health and wellness systems, dating back over 5,000 years, enhance one another. AyurFlow yoga focuses on nurturing the body’s natural self-healing by integrating physical poses (asana), breathwork (pranayama) and meditation to foster both physical and mental wellness.

AyurFlow merges these time-honored practices, blending Ayurveda’s principles with yoga’s techniques to boost physical,

mental, and spiritual well-being. Ayurveda offers insights into the specific needs of individuals, while yoga provides methods to meet these needs through targeted postures and breathing exercises and mediataion.

In your AyurFlow, you’ll acquire the expertise to teach and spread this knowledge, helping others understand how to balance their doshas for optimal health and spiritual insight.

Lainie Jenkins

Co-Founder and Principal Teacher – One Family Yoga & Fitness, Holland Park, Brisbane

Lainie believes that it is important to let go of the identities that we take on in the world (Mother, Yogi, Father, Sister, accountant, etc) while on the mat. It is a time to strengthen the body from the inside out through Ayurveda (science of Life), Asana (Posture), to connect to the breath to open the body through conscious breathing (Pranayama) to calm the mind with Meditation. Lainie teaches to the individual, she guides you gently in and out of each pose regardless of your experience with yoga so that you always feel, comfortable, confident and successful.

“Yoga for me is timeout, timeout from the busyness of motherhood, business owner and the Citta Vritti (fluctuations of the mind). Time to self reflect on what is working for me and what is not. Time for silence in my life, for space in my mind and body, so that I can be fully present with my family and the demands of the studio when needed. Time for self.”

Laine Jenkins is a ERYT500 teacher with Yoga Alliance and a certified Level 3 Senior teacher with Yoga Australia, she has been a devoted yoga practitioner for 22 years and teaching yoga for 20 years. Lainie’s teacher training study initiated with level 1 ISHTA System, with Rachel Zinman. The ISHTA System Integrates the Sciences of Hatha, Tantra and Ayurveda for an integral practice. In Lainie’s classes and trainings, students of all shapes and sizes find tips, tricks, and modifications to make yoga asana work for their unique body, instead of being squished into poses for the sake of form over function. She emphasises safe alignment and mindful transitions, and guides each student to honour the body they bring to the mat today, while being empowered to learn about the body’s intelligence and power to serve you on and off the mat in everyday life.

Lainie’s interest in movement began as a dancer and she was later certified as an International Les Mills Trainer and Presenter and Pilates Instructor. After 20 years in this world, these interests led her towards yoga.

Lainie has further qualifications in Ayurveda, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Kids Yoga, Teens Yoga, Pre and Post-natal Yoga.

Yoga has been an equally terrifying and beautiful thing for me.

It has sat on the peripheral of my life for many years. I have watched people I love and respect go to Yoga and just shine.

~ Andy Ready

I had a list of things for many years that I thought would make be better as a person. Things that would make me be the person that I wanted to be. That would make me happy. It was a long list and Yoga was on it.

But I kept telling myself that I had things to do first, before I could go to Yoga.

I had to lose weight FIRST. I had to get fit FIRST. I had to learn as much as I could before I went to my first class so that I knew what I was doing when I got there. I had to have the right clothes, eat the right food, stop drinking alcohol. I even told myself that I needed to get to a place where i was less outgoing and extroverted – that I had to be more calm and Zen.

But then I got brave and bought a Beginners Pass.

I got even braver and I came.

I wasn’t skinny, I certainly wasn’t fit, I’m pretty sure that I had wine the night before my first class and wore whatever I could find in my very UN-substantial fitness clothes drawer. I’d neglected, ignored, abused and hated this body of mine for so many years, but then I discovered that I simply COULD.

Not COULD like the Yogis of Instagram, not even COULD like most of the people in the class – but more COULD than I gave myself credit for – and I could do my level of Yoga (and still can, it’s a different level of yoga than it was then – but it is still just MY level of yoga)

It has been a long and continual journey around finding my way to Yoga. I’m actually really glad that I waited until I did. It meant I was in the right place at the right time when I was ready to be brave and now I am just so grateful.

So to me Yoga means strength – but surprisingly not just physical strength, but strength in my relationships with others, Strength in my belief in others and myself. I’ve never been stronger – inside or out.
