I am very grateful to have enrolled in this course. the level of knowledge delivered by Lainie and her Teachers was insightful and extensive. If I could briefly describe the teaching it would be practical, supportive and full of integrity. Yoga has been an equally terrifying and beautiful thing for me.
It has sat on the peripheral of my life for many years. I have watched people I love and respect go to Yoga and just shine.
I had a list of things for many years that I thought would make be better as a person. Things that would make me be the person that I wanted to be. That would make me happy. It was a long list and Yoga was on it.
But I kept telling myself that I had things to do first, before I could go to Yoga.
I had to lose weight FIRST. I had to get fit FIRST. I had to learn as much as I could before I went to my first class so that I knew what I was doing when I got there. I had to have the right clothes, eat the right food, stop drinking alcohol. I even told myself that I needed to get to a place where i was less outgoing and extroverted – that I had to be more calm and Zen.
But then I got brave and bought a Beginners Pass.
I got even braver and I came.
I wasn’t skinny, I certainly wasn’t fit, I’m pretty sure that I had wine the night before my first class and wore whatever I could find in my very UN-substantial fitness clothes drawer. I’d neglected, ignored, abused and hated this body of mine for so many years, but then I discovered that I simply COULD.
Not COULD like the Yogis of Instagram, not even COULD like most of the people in the class – but more COULD than I gave myself credit for – and I could do my level of Yoga (and still can, it’s a different level of yoga than it was then – but it is still just MY level of yoga)
It has been a long and continual journey around finding my way to Yoga. I’m actually really glad that I waited until I did. It meant I was in the right place at the right time when I was ready to be brave and now I am just so grateful.
So to me Yoga means strength – but surprisingly not just physical strength, but strength in my relationships with others, Strength in my belief in others and myself. I’ve never been stronger – inside or out.
~ Andy Ready
